22nd Annual Scholarship and Charity Golf Tournament
The Notre Dame Club of Greater Orlando Scholarship and Charity Golf Tournament started in 1992 and has grown to be one of the top charity golf fundraisers in Central Florida, having raised over $370,000 for charity in its 20+ years of existence. It has been played at Mission Inn, Heathrow, Timacuan, and in 2014 we will return to our newest home, The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes.
At the 1997 tournament, we introduced a new award, the ND Orlando “Good Fellow” Award, to honor a sports figure that had “made a difference” and was a positive influence and role model for others. The award was initially presented to nationally known sportscaster and football coach, Lee Corso. Subsequent recipients of this honor have been former ND Football Coach Gerry Faust, Cy Young winner Frank Viola, head coach of the 2001 NCAA ND Women’s Basketball Champion Muffet McGraw, quarterback for the 1988 ND National Champions Tony Rice, head coach of the ND Men’s Basketball Team Mike Brey, sportscaster Pat Clarke, ND and NFL star Bob Kuechenberg, Magic player and ND All American Pat Garrity, ND National Champion and Super Bowl Champion Ricky Watters, college football Hall of Famer and legend, Lou Holtz, Notre Dame / Seminole High School grad and NFLer Jeff Faine, ND grad and Super Bowl Champion fullback Marc Edwards, ND’s most recent Heisman Trophy winner and future NFL Hall of Famer Tim Brown, and last year local legend and co-founder of the Orlando Magic Pat Williams.
This year, we are proud to present the Good Fellow Award to Mike McCoy ND’70: an All American, Green Bay Packer and great role model for children and families!
In addition to annual contributions to Bishop Moore High School and the Notre Dame Club Scholarship Fund, over the years we have contributed money to Safehouse of Seminole and Orange County, the Orlando Ronald McDonald Houses, the Centaur Aids Foundation, the Bishop Grady-Rayam Prize in Sacred Music, the Negro Spiritual Scholarship Fund, the First Life Center for Pregnancy, Covenant House of Orlando, BETA, the Apopka Family Learning Center, the Missing Children’s Foundation, New Hope for Kids, Pathways to Care, the Lou Holtz Foundation, the Urban Youth League, the Power Ten Rowing Club, the Coach Rob Graham Foundation, Hannah and Friends, Shepherd’s Promise, Father Lopez High School, the Midway Safe Harbor Center and Children’s Home Society’s Faine House. This year our goal is to raise over $20,000, and we can’t do it without your help. We hope that you will support this year’s tournament.
